AMD's FSR 4.1 upscaling tech is coming to older graphics cards
"FSR 4.1 will roll out to RDNA 3 GPUs in July, followed by a launch on RDNA 2 chips in early 2027. This summer's update will allow Radeon RX 7000-series chip owners to access AMD's upscaling tech across more than 300 supported games, including Cyberpunk 2077, Battlefield 6, and Assassin's Creed Shadows."
"FSR 4.1's broader expansion next year will allow the tech to expand to more devices running RDNA 2 architecture, like the Steam Deck. AMD launched its FSR 4.1 update for Radeon RX 9000-series graphics cards in March."
"The update builds on its AI-powered upscaling tech, which is supposed to boost performance, while offering sharper visuals and smoother gameplay. Since RDNA 3 chips don't come with the hardware required to run FSR 4.1, Huynh says AMD had "to carefully tune, optimize, and validate the model" to get it running on older GPUs."
""We tested across hundreds of PC configurations in hundreds of games to ensure visuals are sharp and everything works out of the box," Huynh says."
FSR 4.1 upscaling technology is being extended to older AMD graphics hardware. The rollout will begin for RDNA 3 GPUs in July, followed by RDNA 2 chips in early 2027. A summer update will enable Radeon RX 7000-series owners to use FSR 4.1 across more than 300 supported games, including Cyberpunk 2077, Battlefield 6, and Assassin's Creed Shadows. The next broader expansion will extend support to additional RDNA 2 devices such as the Steam Deck. FSR 4.1 builds on AMD’s AI-powered upscaling approach, aiming to improve performance while delivering sharper visuals and smoother gameplay. RDNA 3 hardware lacks required features, so AMD tuned, optimized, and validated the model through extensive testing across many PC configurations and games.
