The Russian space agency Roscosmos reported that the Soviet space probe Kosmos 482, intended for Venus exploration, crashed into the Indian Ocean. Launched in 1972 as part of the Venera program, the probe experienced a launch vehicle malfunction that prevented it from reaching Venus, leading to its long-term orbit around Earth. After decades in space, it reentered the atmosphere and fell into the ocean near Jakarta. Roscosmos confirmed the event and stated that Kosmos 482 no longer exists, with no damage or debris reported.
Kosmos 482 reentered the Earth's atmosphere and crashed into the Indian Ocean after malfunctioning during its launch in 1972, never reaching Venus.
The European Space Agency confirmed that Kosmos 482, part of the Venera program, had been in a decaying orbit for over 50 years.
