Hello, Flume: AT&T's Gigapower Gains a Provider Customer for its Open-Access Network

Gigapower, owned by AT&T and BlackRock, reached an agreement with Flume to use the Mesa, Arizona fiber network. Flume focuses on multi-dwelling units and relies primarily on other providers' networks to deliver connectivity. Flume will deliver managed Wi-Fi internet services to residents in select apartment buildings and condominium communities. AT&T already uses the Gigapower network to offer service to end users in Mesa and other markets. AT&T and BlackRock formed the Gigapower joint venture in 2023 to build fiber broadband networks outside AT&T's traditional local service footprint. AT&T is the anchor tenant while the networks are offered wholesale to other providers. Gigapower is in active conversations with multiple ISPs to join the network, though AT&T's retail presence may prompt cautious responses from some potential customers. Working through the joint venture provides AT&T potential additional revenue and minimizes capital deployment.
