The Bomb Squad began investigating around 2 p.m., with a robot approaching the black sedan while nearby buildings were evacuated. The investigation was connected to improvised explosive devices thrown into crowds during Saturday's dueling protests outside Gracie Mansion. An anti-Islamic demonstration organized by a far-right provocateur and a larger counter-protest group created tensions. An 18-year-old man identified as Emir Balat allegedly threw an improvised explosive device into the crowd during the confrontation.
