AI voice agent embeds within moss-covered phone booth at milan design week
Briefly

The 2147 installation by QS Ventures during Milan Design Week 2025 transformed an old phone booth into an interactive experience featuring Gaia, an innovative multilingual voice agent. Aimed at redefining conversational interaction purposed to create emotional and spatial experiences, the project engaged over 600 participants in 1,200 minutes of dialogue. With advanced speech recognition technology and design inspired by narrative elements from film, Gaia was developed to embody a character with specific conversational traits, rather than serving merely as a functional assistant.
"We didn't design a UI - we designed a voice. A character. With rhythm, silence, friction, and memory," says Cristóbal Olmedo, lead designer of QS Ventures.
Over five days, the installation facilitated more than 1,200 minutes of dialogue with over 600 participants, emphasizing voice as a design material.
