YouTube will let creators whose channels were previously terminated request new accounts through a pilot program. The change follows a subpoena from Rep. Jim Jordan to Alphabet and a letter from Alphabet's legal counsel indicating some terminated creators would be allowed to return. The company specifically referenced creators removed for repeated violations of COVID-19 and election-integrity policies that are no longer in effect and said it values conservative voices and their civic role. Platforms acted during the COVID-19 pandemic to curb medical misinformation and removed accounts they judged to incite violence after January 6. YouTube previously disallowed claims such as vaccines causing cancer and removed accounts seen as threats to public safety or civic order.
