I have a lot of people in the media thanked me for that, but some of them found it hard to thank me D.C. is now look how beautiful D.C. is now, you can walk right from here to a restaurant to right through the center of town. You can be with your child, with your loved one, with your lover. Your lover's not going to be killed anymore, so you can act like a real lover."
The White House briefing opened with mugshots of alleged criminals used to praise ICE operations in Minnesota. A recapitulation of the administration's first year of a second term enumerated achievements and emphasized public safety. Thousands of National Guard troops were deployed months earlier to clean up Washington, D.C., and that deployment was cited as producing a reduction in crime. The briefing described the city as safer and more walkable, including the ability to move from the White House to restaurants through the center of town without fear for children, loved ones, or lovers.
