At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story."
"He called me on Saturday and I could barely hear him on the phone, Hamdi's wife said. He was clearly struggling to speak properly and he said: Soumaya, I'm in a lot of pain'. I've been asking for hours to see a doctor. They haven't brought me one. I need you to help me find a way to help me see a doctor.'"
Sami Hamdi, a 35-year-old British journalist and father of three, was arrested by ICE agents at San Francisco International Airport on October 26 while on a US speaking tour. He was detained as part of the Trump administration's immigration crackdown. His wife, Soumaya Hamdi, reported that his health deteriorated in custody and described a phone call in which he was struggling to speak and said he was in severe pain on the left side of his stomach. She said he had been asking for hours to see a doctor but had not been seen. The British consulate, Hamdi's lawyers and the Council on American-Islamic Relations were contacted and called for his release and medical attention.
