President Donald Trump issued full pardons to Rep. Henry Cuellar and his wife Imelda after a 2024 federal indictment. Trump characterized the Justice Department as "weaponized" and accused President Joe Biden of trying to "take out" Cuellar after the congressman criticized Biden's border policies. Cuellar thanked the president, said the pardon "clears the air" for South Texas, and stated he will continue his work and run for reelection as a Democrat. Prosecutors had alleged the couple accepted about $600,000 in bribes from an Azerbaijani state-linked oil company and a Mexican bank, and charged them with conspiracy and acting as foreign agents.
