""Specifically, the Hudson Tunnel Project and the Second Ave Subway,""
""You know as I stand here, the bad news just keeps coming,""
""Culture wars, over the tens of thousands of jobs that we've created, with these infrastructure projects that were literally talked about for decades, that we finally could get moving, create jobs and opportunity and take care of infrastructure challenges that others were too timid to take on in the past,""
Federal funding for the Hudson Tunnel Project and the Second Avenue Subway has been frozen after the Office of Management and Budget cited "unconstitutional DEI principles." The freeze comes amid a government shutdown and a funding fight between the Trump administration, House Republicans and congressional Democrats. New York Governor Kathy Hochul condemned the action as a culture-war pretext, pledged to use every tool available to restore funding, and warned of job losses. The Department of Transportation said it is reviewing whether awarded funds violated a new rule barring race- and sex-based contracting requirements, but staff furloughs have delayed the inquiry.
