He held out his right hand and showed that the back was covered by a large, greenish bruise. There were also marks left by female admirers with carefully manicured nails. Bruising on Trump's right hand has been visible intermittently since at least spring 2024 and drew wide attention on February 24, 2025 during a White House visit by French president Emmanuel Macron. A close-up Getty image appeared to show makeup applied to the hand, suggesting an attempt to conceal a bruise. The mark reappeared in April, May and frequently throughout summer 2025 despite apparent efforts to hide it. Trump showed the bruise in March 2024 and said it resulted from overly vigorous handshakes by supporters. He repeated that explanation in late November 2024.
