Trump and Putin's upcoming meeting will take place at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Anchorage, valued for its remote location which aids in managing the event's security. The base hosts the 3rd Wing of the Air Force, featuring critical infrastructure worth $15 billion and accommodating over 32,000 personnel. Experts recognize it as the only suitable venue in Alaska capable of ensuring the necessary security for both leaders. Historically significant, the site was established in 2010 through a merger of Elmendorf Air Force Base and Fort Richardson, with a notable history during the Cold War.
"Any place you can do it that kind of isolates it, and it makes it easier to control the setting is actually important for both sides," said Benjamin Jensen.
Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson is seen by many experts as the only location in Alaska with sufficient security to host both Putin and Trump.
The military base houses more than 32,000 people and accounts for roughly 10% of Anchorage's population.
The joint-base is home to the 3rd Wing of the Air Force, which operates fighter jets such as the F-22 Raptor.
