"Our great West Point (getting greater all the time!) has smartly cancelled the Award Ceremony for actor Tom Hanks, the president declared. Important move! We don't need destructive, WOKE recipients getting our cherished American Awards!!!"
"Tom Hanks has done more for the positive portrayal of the American service member, more for the caring of the American veteran, their caregivers and their family, and more for the American space program and all branches of government than many other Americans."
"The statement also listed Hanks' extensive support of the military and America's space program during his five-decade career. In addition to playing U.S. service members in Forrest Gump, Saving Private Ryan, and Greyhound, Hanks also played the late astronaut Jim Lovell in Apollo 13 and produced the acclaimed World War II-themed miniseries, Band of Brothers and The Pacific."
West Point's Association of Graduates initially planned in June to honor Tom Hanks with the Sylvanus Thayer Award at a Sept. 25 ceremony but later canceled the event. The Sylvanus Thayer Award, presented annually since 1958, recognizes non-graduates with distinguished public service embodying Duty, Honor, Country. Board chairman Robert A. McDonald praised Hanks for positive portrayals of service members, veteran care, and support of the space program. The statement noted Hanks' five-decade support of the military and space initiatives and his portrayals in Forrest Gump, Saving Private Ryan, Greyhound, Apollo 13, and his production of Band of Brothers and The Pacific. Former president Donald Trump celebrated the cancellation on Truth Social, calling Hanks 'WOKE'.
