"eliminate the root causes of the Ukrainian conflict."
US Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio pushed a tougher US line pressing Moscow to do more to end the war and stop killings in Ukraine. Vance warned that Russia must negotiate in good faith or face severe consequences. Rubio reiterated a call for the killing to stop and urged Moscow to take meaningful steps toward a durable resolution. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov rejected the idea that Ukraine can recapture occupied territory. Russia currently controls about one-fifth of Ukraine, including Crimea.
