Applicants must study 128 questions on U.S. history and politics and correctly answer 12 of 20 questions on the exam. Previously, applicants were required to answer six of 10 questions correctly. Applicants must also demonstrate lawful U.S. residence for three to five years and prove ability to read, write and speak English. The reinstated exam increases both the number of study questions and the passing threshold. The exam focuses on civics, history, and political knowledge as part of naturalization eligibility.
