The proposed approach would essentially stop international passenger and cargo arrivals at major airports in Democratic states. The timing coincides with expected large travel volumes for the FIFA World Cup starting in June. Over 50 million international travelers arrived at three major New York airports last year. The Homeland Security secretary said authorities should not process international flights into sanctuary cities and blamed local Democrats for preventing federal enforcement. Federal ICE agents and National Guard troops have been deployed to some Democrat-run cities as part of the crackdown.
