US: Minnesota sues federal gov't over immigration crackdown
""thousands of poorly trained, aggressive and armed agents of the state, of the federal government, have rolled into our communities.""
""The deployment of thousands of armed, masked DHS agents to Minnesota has done our state serious harm. This is, in essence, a federal invasion of the Twin Cities and Minnesota and it must stop,""
""If the goal were simply to look for people who are undocumented, Minneapolis would not be the place you would go," said city mayor Jacob Frey. "There are countless more people that are undocumented in Florida and Texas and Utah,""
Minnesota and Illinois filed lawsuits against the federal government following the fatal shooting of Renee Good by a federal immigration officer in Minneapolis. Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison said a DHS surge of ICE officers into the state has made communities less safe and described thousands of armed, masked agents as a federal invasion that has caused serious harm and violated the Constitution and federal law. Local officials dispute the account that Good drove toward the agent, citing video that appears to show her vehicle turning away. Minneapolis officials argue the ICE deployment is politically targeted.
