Authorities reported that a single shot fired from about 200 yards struck Kirk in the neck and that the suspected gunman remained at large Wednesday night. Shapiro directed flags at Commonwealth facilities to remain lowered until sunset on September 14, 2025. Polis ordered flags from sunrise to sunset on September 11, 2025, also marking the 24th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks. Kirk was born in Illinois and lived in Arizona.
