Trump's Second Term Approval Numbers Are Finally Cratering
"It can be difficult to conceive of the American voter who spent most of the last year sitting resolutely on their hands, or perhaps with their fingers in their ears, ignoring everything going on in the second Donald Trump administration, only to now, 10 months later, acknowledge that the man has somehow lost their support. Infuriating as it may be, however, that theoretical person absolutely exists, and Trump's anemic overall approval numbers tell the tale."
"After months of staid inaction, where the bottom line numbers seemed to be incredibly resistant to movement despite the administration's numerous faceplants, the last few weeks have seen markedly more activity as he reaches new lows for his second term. There's no denying at this point that Trump's approval is in the process of cratering; the question is how many more of his most deluded supporters still have the plasticity in their mental and emotional states to admit that they've been duped,"
Trump's overall approval remained largely unchanged from June through October, varying by only about one percentage point. Since mid-October and the onset of a record-setting federal government shutdown, approval has declined noticeably across major polling aggregators. Silver Bulletin's aggregate shows approval falling from 44.3% to 41.3% while disapproval rose from 51.9% to 56.2% in roughly a month. Real Clear Politics' aggregate shows approval dropping from 45.6% in mid-October to 42.7% now. The shifts suggest fewer polling respondents sitting on the sidelines and a measurable erosion of support among previously undeclared or passive backers.
