Fifty-five percent of respondents said it is acceptable for the U.S. military and National Guard to assist local police in large cities, while about one-third supported federal takeovers of city police departments. Eighty percent of Americans view crime as a major problem in big cities. Approval also rose on immigration (44%), the economy (43%), and the Ukraine war (42%). The poll ran August 21–25 with 1,182 respondents.
