"PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP: Where do you come from? MICHAEL KOZIOL: I'm from Australia. TRUMP: Who are you with? KOZIOL: The Sydney Morning Herald. TRUMP: Nasty guy. Go ahead. KOZIOL: Sorry, I was just trying to ask [inaudible] TRUMP: All right, go ahead. MICHAEL KOZIOL: In your first term you worked with two Australian prime ministers, Scott Morrison and Malcolm Turnbull. They were from the same side of politics as you."
"Mr. Albanese, is a different side. Can you tell us a bit more about what it's like to work with Mr. Albanese compared to those two? TRUMP: Well, I got along. I mean, that wouldn't not be fair. Because, you know, the man on my right has a big advantage. You know that, right? But I think that he's doing a really good job. And we have had a very good relationship. I don't want to compare one or the other."
President Donald Trump interrupted an Australian reporter at a White House Q&A and called him a "nasty guy" as the reporter identified his outlet. The reporter, Michael Koziol, identified himself as the North American correspondent for The Sydney Morning Herald. Koziol asked about Trump's experience working with Australian prime ministers Scott Morrison and Malcolm Turnbull compared with Anthony Albanese. Trump said he got along with them, praised Albanese's job, and declined a direct comparison. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese responded by saying he would use Trump's praise in campaign ads for 2028. The reason for the "nasty guy" remark was unclear.
