""We had very good talks today on Iran. Iran looks like it wants to make a deal very badly, but we have to see what that deal is," Trump told reporters on Air Force One on his way from Washington to Florida. Trump said Iran should want to make a deal because the U.S. "armada" is going to be near its shores soon."
"The president said the U.S. is "in no rush" to go on a military operation in Iran, both because it still has to get all its military assets "into position" and because he prefers a diplomatic solution. "They know that if they don't make a deal the consequences are very steep," Trump said. Trump mentioned that Iran needs to agree upfront to "no nuclear weapons.""
Iran's foreign minister Abbas Araghchi met with U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner in Muscat for close to eight hours with the Omani foreign minister mediating. Negotiations began with separate meetings with Oman and later included direct talks between Witkoff, Kushner and Araghchi. President Trump said Iran appears eager to make a deal but that details must be seen. Trump warned of steep consequences if Iran refuses and noted U.S. military assets will be positioned near Iranian shores, while expressing a preference for diplomacy and saying the U.S. is "in no rush" for military action. Envoys will meet Araghchi again early next week.
