President Trump has initiated plans for a face-to-face meeting between Presidents Putin and Zelenskyy to discuss ending Russia's invasion of Ukraine. He emphasized the importance of this meeting in addressing potential ceasefire terms and territorial disputes. Following the meeting, a trilateral talk involving Trump will occur. European leaders participated in discussions highlighting their roles in the security assurances for Ukraine.
"I called President Putin, and began the arrangements for a meeting, at a location to be determined, between President Putin and President Zelenskyy," Trump said. "After that meeting takes place, we will have a Trilat, which would be the two Presidents, plus myself. Again, this was a very good, early step for a War that has been going on for almost four years."
Trump mentioned that a potential ceasefire and the issue of Ukrainian territory should be discussed in a face-to-face meeting between the two leaders.
Trump expressed hope for soon holding three-way talks among the U.S., Russian and Ukrainian leaders. He noted, "we're going to let the president go over and talk to the president and we'll see how that works out."
Trump indicated he would back European security guarantees for Ukraine during his meeting with Zelenskyy and leaders from several European countries. He noted there would be a "NATO-like" security presence.
