The US President expressed confidence that Russian President Vladimir Putin is ready to negotiate an end to the Russia-Ukraine war. In an interview, he mentioned that Putin desires control over Ukraine but acknowledges the need for a deal. Trump indicated he is focused on achieving a peace agreement quickly and plans to involve Ukrainian President Zelenskyy in future discussions, depending on the outcome of his meeting with Putin. He remained cautious about expectations for immediate results and expressed frustration over past broken promises from Putin.
I think he wants to get it done. I really feel he wanted the whole thing. I think if it weren't me, if it were somebody else, he would not be talking to anybody.
I don't know that we're going to get an immediate ceasefire, but I think it's going to come. See, I'm more interested in an immediate peace deal getting peace fast.
Depending on what happens with my meeting, I'm going to be calling up President Zelenskyy and [saying] let's get him over to wherever we're going to meet.
If the meeting went poorly, I'm not calling anyone. I'm going home.
