"I am pleased to advise that I reversed the cuts made to Homeland Security and Counterterrorism for New York City and State. It was my Honor to do so. Thank you for your attention to this matter!"
"From the moment these devastating cuts were announced, I made it clear that New York would not stand by while our law enforcement and counterterrorism operations were defunded. I'm glad President Trump heard our call and reversed course, ensuring our state has the resources necessary to support law enforcement and keep our families safe."
"a devastating blow."
"the No. 1 terrorist target in the world."
President Donald Trump announced the reversal of $187 million in homeland security and counterterrorism funding cuts for New York, posting the decision on Truth Social. The cuts had represented 86% of the state's homeland security funding and would have reduced NYPD counterterrorism funding from $90 million to nearly $10 million, affecting the NYPD, fire department, state police and other agencies. Governor Kathy Hochul sent a letter to Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and credited political pushback for the restoration. Republican Rep. Nicole Malliotakis said she spoke with Trump and called the cuts a terrible idea. Commissioner Jessica Tisch described the cut as a devastating blow.
