"Our great West Point (getting greater all the time!) has smartly cancelled the Award Ceremony for actor Tom Hanks,"
"Important move! We don't need destructive, WOKE recipients getting our cherished American Awards!!!"
"focus on its core mission of preparing cadets to lead, fight, and win."
"whose service and accomplishments in the national interest exemplify personal devotion to the ideals expressed in West Point's motto: 'Duty, Honor, Country.'"
The West Point Association of Graduates canceled an awards ceremony planned for actor Tom Hanks. President Trump praised the cancellation on Truth Social, calling it an important move and criticizing "destructive, WOKE recipients." The Washington Post reported that the alumni association, not the U.S. Military Academy itself, made the decision. The association and West Point did not respond to requests for comment, leaving unclear why the ceremony was canceled and whether Hanks will still receive the Sylvanus Thayer Award. Retired Army Col. Mark Bieger framed the cancellation as allowing focus on the academy's core mission. Hanks was cited for portrayals of service members, veteran advocacy, memorial support, and work on wartime series.
