"legendary in so many ways."
"Billions and billions of people have watched them over the years,"
"I have a good memory, so I can remember things, which is very fortunate,"
"But just, I wanted to just be myself. You have to be yourself."
President Donald Trump opened and hosted the Kennedy Center Honors, praising honorees Sylvester Stallone, Kiss, Gloria Gaynor, Michael Crawford and George Strait as legendary and among the greatest performers. Trump said billions of people have watched them and appeared on stage three times, including before and after intermission, and promoted each artist in prerecorded videos. He said he accepted the hosting request from a television network and predicted the Dec. 23 broadcast would have record ratings. Trump said he did not prepare much because he has a good memory and wanted to be himself. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick attended and praised the president's on-camera ease.
