Negotiations between Denmark, Greenland, and the United States will go forward aimed at ensuring that Russia and China never gain a foothold economically or militarily in Greenland,"
"The Times reported NATO members discussed a compromise in which Denmark would give the United States sovereignty over small pockets of Greenlandic land where the United States could build military bases, according to three senior officials familiar with the discussion. The Times added the idea came from Rutte, a former prime minister of the Netherlands who is seen as being close to Trump."
NATO and the United States agreed on a framework to address Arctic security that could grant the United States sovereignty over small Greenland territories for military use. The NATO Secretary General and the U.S. President met and emphasized the critical significance of Arctic security to all Allies, especially the seven Arctic Allies. Negotiations among Denmark, Greenland, and the United States will aim to prevent Russia and China from gaining economic or military footholds in Greenland. The United States declined to provide specifics and indicated the arrangement would be permanent while dropping threats of additional tariffs on Europe.
