"This is the most prestigious board ever put together. You know, I've seen some great corporate boards. I've seen some great boards, period. It's peanuts compared to this board,"
"Someday I won't be here, the United Nations will be, I think, is going to be much stronger. The Board of Peace is going to almost be looking over the United Nations and making sure it runs properly,"
"very closely"
President Trump convened the first Board of Peace meeting in Washington to oversee a Gaza ceasefire and reconstruction plan. Member states pledged $7 billion for reconstruction in Gaza, and the United States pledged $10 billion to the board. More than 40 countries attended at the U.S. Institute of Peace building, which now bears Trump's name. The Board of Peace is chaired by Trump and was formally established last month. Representatives include Israel, Arab states, Argentina, Hungary, India, Pakistan, and Vietnam; France and the United Kingdom attended as observers. There is no Palestinian representative on the board. Some officials fear the board could be used to undermine the United Nations, and a U.N. Security Council meeting on Gaza was moved to accommodate diplomats attending both meetings.
