President Donald Trump called Squawk Box host Joe Kernen early Thursday while Kernen was off the set. Trump expressed devastation at the assassination of Charlie Kirk and said Kirk could have been president someday. Trump phoned to congratulate Squawk Box on its 30th anniversary and told hosts he loves what they do, asking that Becky Quick and Andrew Ross Sorkin be told. Trump said the country will heal, that he remains focused on winning, and that winning could help the country come together again. Charlie Kirk co-founded Turning Point USA, was a close Trump ally, and was credited with mobilizing youth voters in 2024.
