Trump Ally Confronted On CNN In Heated Brawl Over Slavery Erasure: Are You a Veteran?'
"On Monday's edition of CNN NewsNight, CNN anchor Abby Phillip discussed the issue with a panel that included Leigh McGowan, Kevin O'Leary, Tezlyn Figaro, Lydia Moynihan, and Elie Honig. As Figaro responded to Moynihan's argument that more emphasis should be placed on America's role in ending its own enslavement of people, she referenced O'Leary's comments from an earlier segment. When O'Leary tried to reinforce the same point that Americans have freedoms that they wouldn't have in China"
"To Kevin's point, we can't erase history and those who don't learn from the past are doomed to repeat it. So obviously, we need to acknowledge that this was a shameful chapter in American history. And I think I don't know anybody who doesn't want to acknowledge that and acknowledge that that was a terrible, horrible chapter. I think it's interesting that I look at universities and some of these people are so educated and they don't have a love for America."
The National Park Service removal of slavery-related plaques at George and Martha Washington's Philadelphia home led to a court order restoring the exhibits. CNN's NewsNight convened a panel including Tezlyn Figaro, Kevin O'Leary, Lydia Moynihan, and others to debate the removals and public memory. Moynihan urged acknowledgment of the shameful chapter of slavery while also celebrating America's role in ending slavery. Figaro questioned O'Leary's authority to claim superior American freedoms compared with China and challenged his standing during the exchange. The segment highlighted tensions over how slavery is presented in public history and who speaks for patriotism.
