Trump aide accuses India of financing Russia's war in Ukraine
Briefly

The Trump administration has condemned India's continued purchase of Russian oil, asserting it funds the war in Ukraine. Deputy chief Stephen Miller criticized India for being the second-largest buyer of Russian oil after China, accounting for over 30 percent of its fuel imports from Moscow. This shift occurred after India only imported 1 percent from Russia before the Ukraine conflict. The U.S. has imposed a 25 percent tariff on Indian goods and warned of further penalties if oil and arms imports continue.
Stephen Miller stated, " what he (Trump) said very clearly is that it is not acceptable for India to continue financing this war by purchasing the oil from Russia."
Miller expressed concern over India's significant imports of Russian oil, stating, "People will be shocked to learn that India is basically tied with China in purchasing Russian oil."
Miller's remarks highlight a dramatic shift, noting that New Delhi imported just 1 percent of its oil from Russia before the Ukraine war started in 2022.
The Trump administration has implemented a 25 percent tariff on Indian products due to their purchases from Russia, signaling increasing pressure on India.
