Trump adversary Letitia James pleads not guilty in mortgage fraud case
"Not guilty, judge, to both counts."
"This is not about me. This is about all of us and a justice system which has been weaponised, a justice system that has been used as a tool for revenge,"
"Because I believe that justice will rain down like water, and righteousness like a mighty stream."
Letitia James entered a not-guilty plea to federal mortgage-related charges, facing one count of bank fraud and one count of making a false statement to a financial institution. Each count carries a maximum penalty of 30 years in prison. Her hearing took place in federal court in Norfolk, Virginia, and her trial is scheduled to begin on January 26. James said the prosecution represents a weaponised justice system and urged supporters that there is no fear, invoking a biblical image of justice prevailing. She was indicted by a grand jury earlier this month and is among recent critics of President Donald Trump to face charges.
