Eric Lendrum, a speechwriter for the Department of Homeland Security, has faced backlash for making inflammatory comparisons between American conservatives and historically oppressed groups. In his podcast, he endorsed the great replacement conspiracy theory and likened conservatives to enslaved people and Jews during the Holocaust. Lendrum has a history of extreme views, including support for January 6 insurrectionists. His rhetoric echoes themes of dehumanization prevalent in historical authoritarian regimes, raising concerns about the potential implications of such sentiments in contemporary society. Lendrum began his DHS role in March after previous government positions in the Trump administration.
Lendrum was a frequent online presence, hosting a podcast, posting on X and Telegram, and writing a blog on the website American Greatness.
It was said that the most surefire way to create an authoritarian regime is to completely dehumanize a significant portion of the population, so that their subsequent enslavement by the state will not face any larger resistance.
Lendrum claimed that the racist great replacement conspiracy theory was real and implied that American conservatives are on a course for ostracization similar to that faced by Jews in Nazi Germany.
He defended participants of the January 6 insurrection, claiming they faced persecution for their patriotism, equating current political treatment of conservatives with historical dehumanization.
