""I'm a short guy. He was even shorter than I," says Kupor, who says he is 5'5" tall "on a good day" when he isn't sporting his cowboy boots for an extra inch of height."
""It was a lot of sitting around in an empty ballroom in Mar-a-Lago on my phone, trying to keep myself occupied," Kupor recounts. "It was well worth waiting for, for sure.""
On December 16, 2024 Scott Kupor arrived at Mar-a-Lago to interview for a White House director role with Donald Trump and chief of staff Susie Wiles. Kupor had been introduced to transition team co-chair Howard Lutnick by Marc Andreessen and Ben Horowitz. He arrived as Masayoshi Son concluded a press conference pledging $100 billion to the American economy and snapped a photo of Son. Kupor's interview was delayed repeatedly for five hours while the President-Elect worked on a TikTok deal, leaving Kupor waiting in an empty ballroom. Kupor was sworn in as director of the Office of Personnel Management in July and now oversees human resources policy, personnel oversight, and major federal labor cost-cutting efforts.
