Trump Mobile, the new cellular brand from the Trump Organization, has retracted its claims that its upcoming phone would be manufactured in the U.S., shifting to more ambiguous terminology. This change comes shortly after the brand's launch, where it initially emphasized a domestic production. Additionally, the technical specifications of the T1 phone have been downgraded, and the launch timeline has been broadened to 'later this year.' Industry experts express skepticism about the viability of a U.S.-made phone at the proposed price tag.
When the Trump Organization announced its cellular brand earlier this month, it touted the devices would be 'made in the USA,' keeping in line with Trump administration policies.
Todd Weaver, CEO of Purism, the only company currently producing a U.S.-made smartphone, told Fortune, 'Producing a fully U.S.-made phone isn't something you spin up overnight.'
The website for the device has removed all language indicating it would be manufactured in the U.S. Instead, it opts for much more vague now, saying it was 'designed with American values in mind.'
While the phones were initially promised to be released in September, the company has since adjusted that language to read 'later this year.'
