"Covering this deadlock as an ordinary debate between good-faith opponents is a betrayal of the truth. The fact is that the Republican Party put out a hit on the ACA ever since it was rolled out. Besides the utter ignorance of the current president, their primary weapon has been the Health Saving Account, one of those movement conservative notions based on the premise that everyone should have the freedom to be driven into bankruptcy by unforeseen circumstances."
"From Politico: Senators voted 51-48 on advancing a GOP health care plan that would have expanded health savings accounts as an alternative to the expiring tax credits. Democrats' plan to extend the Covid-era enhanced subsidies for three years also received a 51-48 vote. Both proposals fell well short of the 60 votes needed to vault a key procedural hurdle. The votes both went largely, but not entirely, along party lines."
Enhanced Affordable Care Act premium subsidies are scheduled to expire in a few weeks, risking higher costs for thousands who buy insurance on exchanges. The Senate held procedural votes that failed 51-48 on both a GOP plan to expand health savings accounts and a Democratic proposal to extend Covid-era enhanced subsidies for three years; neither reached the 60 votes required to advance. Vote alignments were largely along party lines, with Sen. Rand Paul opposing the GOP measure and Sens. Susan Collins, Josh Hawley, Lisa Murkowski and Dan Sullivan voting to advance the Democratic plan. The votes were tied to a messaging deal after the recent government shutdown.
