"After five hours of printing T-shirts, Henry Reyes' arms got tired. All day, a steady stream of locals filed into Fleetwood Fine Goods, the small shop in the Inner Richmond where Reyes works. They came with T-shirts, crop tops and bandanas in their hands. One by one, Reyes laid the garments out on the store's screen printing press, squeezed paint onto a screen and, applying force with his arms, dragged a rubber squeegee across it. When he was done, the words "F-K ICE" were printed in bold capital letters."
"On Friday, Jan. 30, thousands of people protesting Immigration and Customs Enforcement activity took over Dolores Park. On the other side of town on Clement Street, a quieter response unfolded. Fleetwood, a store that sells goods from approximately 150 local artists, offered to print one of two designs: "F-K ICE" or "No One Is Illegal on Stolen Land" on any article of clothing, free of charge. Word got around, and by the time Dozier arrived to open the store at 11 a.m., a line had formed."
"The store opted to take a middle route. Dozier and Reyes, who were scheduled to work on Friday, agreed to open the store. (Schwieterman was out of town, visiting family in Ohio.) But instead of operating as usual, the main focus was the free screen printing operation. To avoid sending any money to banks, Fleetwood declined to accept credit card payments and would divert any proceeds to El Tecolote and the San Francisco Immigrant Legal Defense Collaborative, Schwieterman said."
Henry Reyes and a coworker printed protest designs by hand for a steady stream of locals at Fleetwood Fine Goods. The shop offered two designs, "F-K ICE" and "No One Is Illegal on Stolen Land," and printed them free on T-shirts, crop tops and bandanas. Approximately 200 people visited the store in a single day to receive printed garments. The owner chose to open and focus on the free screen-printing effort during the Jan. 30 general strike. The shop declined credit-card payments and planned to direct any proceeds to El Tecolote and the San Francisco Immigrant Legal Defense Collaborative.
