The only protester still locked up after Trump's campus crackdown breaks silence: 'I feel helpless'
""Most days I feel helpless," said Kordia, 32, speaking from a Texas immigration detention center where she has been jailed since March."
""I want to do something, but I can't from here. I can't do anything.""
Kordia grew up in the West Bank and was separated from family in Gaza by Israeli movement restrictions. Relatives in Gaza once called from the beach, allowing her to share cousins' laughter and glimpse the waves. Many of those relatives are now dead, killed in the war that destroyed much of the Strip. Kordia has been jailed in a Texas immigration detention center since March after arrest during a government crackdown on pro-Palestinian protesters. Other arrested activists were released, but Kordia remains detained, mischaracterized by the government and largely overlooked. She was not a student or part of an organized group at Columbia and has been reluctant to seek attention. She feels helpless and wants to give her family a voice.
