"Zohran Mamdani received more than a million votes on Tuesday - a number we haven't seen in the city since John V. Lindsay in 1969. What that sort of turnout meant on a neighborhood level could look a little funny. There was a lot of what we expected (Cuomo won most of the Upper East Side and performed particularly well in majority-white neighborhoods), and some of what we didn't (the Zohran Corridor of Borough Park). Here's what we're noticing Wednesday morning."
"But jog a block west, past Eighth Avenue, and the voters of 57th Street start favoring Zohran. This makes sense: Voters in condos at the Parc Vendome, where prices for one-bedrooms are in the million-plus range, may have had their choice offset by the mid-block rent-stabilized stock of Hell's Kitchen, like 309 West 55th Street - where a studio is now on the market for $2,700."
Zohran Mamdani received more than a million votes, the highest city total since John V. Lindsay in 1969. Turnout produced varied neighborhood-level results, creating microclimates of support and opposition across the city. Billionaires' Row heavily favored Cuomo, while adjacent blocks west of Eighth Avenue leaned toward Mamdani, reflecting downtown rent-stabilized residents counterbalancing luxury condo owners. Borough Park overwhelmingly supported Cuomo, but a hook-shaped district on the Sunset Park–Dyker Heights border recorded five votes for Mamdani out of six cast in that sparsely populated freight-rail area. A small section of Bath Beach swung decisively to Mamdani. Fresh Meadows went for Cuomo with about 61 percent.
