"Kimmel was suspended by ABC's parent company, Disney, last week after Nexstar and Sinclair, the two telecom giants who collectively own a quarter of ABC affiliates across the country, announced they would not air his show. The proximate cause of the decisions reached by each of these three companies was Kimmel's monologue last Monday, during which he unambiguously and erroneously implied that the man who assassinated conservative activist Charlie Kirk was part of the MAGA gang."
"Hours before Kimmel faced consequences for his egregious error or outright lie Federal Communications Commission Chairman Brendan Carr issued a threat. Frankly, when you see stuff like this, I mean look, we can do this the easy way or the hard way, remarked Carr last week. These companies can find ways to change conduct and take action, frankly, on Kimmel, or there's going to be additional work for the FCC ahead."
Jimmy Kimmel was suspended by Disney after Nexstar and Sinclair announced they would not air his show. The broadcasters took action because Kimmel's monologue erroneously implied the man who assassinated conservative activist Charlie Kirk belonged to the MAGA movement. Federal Communications Commission Chairman Brendan Carr warned broadcasters that the FCC might take action if companies did not change conduct. Senator Ted Cruz compared Carr's remarks to those of a mobster. President Donald Trump criticized ABC and called Kimmel an arm of the DNC while suggesting ABC could face consequences for reinstating Kimmel.
