The DC Restaurant Trump Slump
""You want me to prove you wrong? I think it's something we could consider doing. I'd love to do it. I love the White House food, but after a while, I can see going to a nice restaurant. It's safe.""
""If Trump was to come, I'd be a little anxious because I don't know what that would create or cause, you know?""
""Lord. Have. Mercy. On. That. Restaurant.""
Donald Trump responded to a reporter's dare about visiting a DC restaurant by saying he might and that it would be safe. During his two White House terms, the only DC restaurant he had visited was the steakhouse in his former Pennsylvania Avenue hotel. Many local restaurateurs feared that hosting the President would turn an establishment into a political lightning rod. Martin's Tavern's owner said he would be anxious about what a Trump visit might create. Less than a week later, Trump appeared outside Joe's Seafood, Prime Steak & Stone Crab and praised city safety and booming restaurants.
