"From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging."
"Nearly 100 drivers a day have been caught drink-driving across Britain over the past three years, new figures reveal. Road safety charity IAM RoadSmart, which obtained the data, stressed the urgent need for "a shift in mindset" among motorists. A total of 108,000 drivers received drink-drive endorsements on their licences between 2022 and 2024, averaging 99 per day. These statistics were acquired from the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) via a Freedom of Information request."
The Independent covers major issues including reproductive rights, climate change and Big Tech, producing investigations and documentaries such as 'The A Word' about American women fighting for reproductive rights. The outlet seeks donations to fund on-the-ground reporting, to speak to both sides of stories and to keep journalism free of paywalls by relying on contributions. Road safety charity IAM RoadSmart obtained DVLA data showing 108,000 drink-drive endorsements between 2022 and 2024, averaging 99 per day. Drivers aged 25–39 accounted for 48,000 offences, ages 40–65 for 40,000, ages 17–24 for 15,000 and over‑65s for 3,000. IAM RoadSmart warned of potential costs up to 80,000 for those whose jobs require driving, citing lost earnings, legal fees and higher insurance premiums.
