President Donald Trump expressed surprise when informed that Robert Redford died in his sleep at age 89 and said "that's a good way to go." He praised Redford as "great," saying there was a period when "there was nobody better" and that Redford made "seven or eight great movies." The remarks came outside the White House as Trump prepared for a state visit to Great Britain. When asked to name a favorite Redford film, Trump declined to choose a single title, noting Redford had "a lot of them" and recalling a stretch when he was the hottest movie star. Redford was a four-time Oscar winner and died at home near Provo, Utah.
"REPORTER: Actor Robert Redford passed away today. PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP: Oh, he did. Wow. REPORTER: Apparently in his sleep at his home. TRUMP: Well, that's a good way to go, I guess. But I'll tell ya, Robert Redford was great. He had a series of years, there was nobody better. This just happened, I guess, huh? Wow. Trump appeared outside the White House ahead of his state visit to Great Britain."
"REPORTER: He died in Utah in his sleep. What movie would you say you liked him best in? TRUMP: Well, you have a lot of them I'd say he made, I'd say he made seven or eight great movies, there was a period of time when he was the hottest. I thought he was great. Redford, a four-time Oscar winner, died in his home outside of Provo, Utah, the New York Times first reported Tuesday."
