Two US senators, Roger Wicker and Deb Fischer, visited Taipei for high-level meetings with Taiwanese leaders to discuss US-Taiwan relations, regional security, and trade and investment. Wicker emphasized that a thriving democracy is never fully assured and conveyed Congress's commitment, long-term friendship, and support for Taiwan's right to remain free and preserve self-determination. Fischer described the visit as significant amid global unrest and said talks would cover security, opportunities, and regional progress. China protested the visit as undermining its sovereignty and accused it of encouraging separatism. The US supplies Taiwan with advanced tanks, air-defence missiles, and upgraded F-16 fighters.
