"This is a nation of Constitutional law, not martial law,"
White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller labeled a court ruling a "legal insurrection" and accused district judges of assuming powers delegated to the president. He asserted an ongoing nine-month pattern of district court rulings that he described as flagrantly unlawful and unconstitutional, arguing those rulings have frequently been overturned. Miller insisted district courts must see themselves as operating under the laws and Constitution and must not take powers reserved solely for the president. The remarks followed U.S. District Judge Karin Immergut's decision blocking deployment of troops and warning against blurring civil and military authority.
