State Rep. Chynah Tyler to pay $6K after spending campaign funds on personal uses, including takeout, salon visit
"Any committee expenditure that is not supported by bills, receipts, or other documentation reflecting the purpose of the expenditure creates a presumption that the expenditure was made for personal use,"
"erroneous personal expenditures,"
"which impacted my ability to personally oversee certain campaign finance activities."
State Rep. Chynah Tyler spent about $5,664 in campaign funds on personal items including a $223 hair-braiding salon charge, various takeout and Uber Eats deliveries, and a $100 AAA membership. The Office of Campaign and Political Finance found the expenditures to be personal use and cited failure to keep detailed financial records. Tyler reimbursed an additional $827 to her campaign and agreed to pay the state $6,000. Regulators also cited late disclosures and acceptance of individual donations that exceeded the $1,000 annual limit. Tyler said limited mobility after giving birth in winter 2025 affected her ability to oversee some campaign finance activities, and her campaign corrected the issues.
