South Africa's Democratic Alliance (DA), led by John Steenhuisen, has withdrawn from a national dialogue initiative initiated by President Cyril Ramaphosa, labeling it a waste of time and money. Steenhuisen criticized the ongoing corruption in the government and indicated that nothing would improve unless those involved in corrupt practices were removed. The withdrawal comes amid challenges in the Government of National Unity, formed after the ANC's loss of parliamentary majority, where the ideologically opposed DA and ANC often clash. Recent tensions included Ramaphosa's dismissal of DA deputy minister Andrew Whitfield for a controversial trip.
"Nothing will change in South Africa for the better if we keep the same people around the cabinet table who have involved themselves in corruption," Steenhuisen stated.
"John Steenhuisen said the initiative was a waste of time and money, and after a clash, the DA withdrew from the national dialogue initiative.
