"Together, we've laid a foundation that will help Somerville move forward and will help Somerville thrive,"
"It's just truly been an honor to be mayor of Somerville."
"We know people love this city. We love Somerville. That's why we pay so much money to live here and put up with the construction, with the rats. But people felt very closed off from their mayor,"
"They're looking for someone to come in who's going to be available to them."
Jake Wilson and Willie Burnley Jr. earned the top two vote totals in the Somerville mayoral preliminary and will advance to the November general election. Wilson led with 5,109 votes, Burnley had 4,117, and incumbent Katjana Ballantyne received 2,847, with dozens of absentee, overseas, and dropbox ballots still to be counted but not expected to change the outcome. Ballantyne conceded and praised the foundation laid for Somerville, noting it was an honor to serve as mayor. Ballantyne was first elected in 2021 and ran on steady leadership, public works progress, stable finances, and new development oversight. Wilson, from sports media and communications, criticized the administration for leadership, management, and accountability failures, declining city services, insufficient housing affordability progress, and lack of transparency.
