So We're Supposed to Believe It's Coincidence That Trump Just Fired a Key Watchdog?
"Josh Marshall's joint hipped the Shebeen to a fascinating investigation by The Wall Street Journal, prompted apparently by a report by Reuters, into the tawdry (and, perhaps illegal) machinations that produced the snipe-hunt indictments of Letitia James and Federal Reserve Board Governor Lisa Cook, as well as the investigation into Senator Adam Schiff. Suffice it to say, were I administration mortgage apparatchik Bill Pulte, the mastermind behind the mock legal theory underpinning these farces, I wouldn't be bringing any green bananas into the office."
"Fannie Mae watchdogs who were removed from their jobs had been probing if Trump appointee Bill Pulte had improperly obtained mortgage records of key Democratic officials, including New York Attorney General Letitia James, according to people familiar with the matter. Fannie's ethics and investigations group had received internal complaints alleging senior officials had improperly directed staff to access the mortgage documents of James and others, according to the people."
"The earlier Reuters report dealt with the firing of Joe Allen, the interim inspector general of the Federal Housing Finance Agency as part of an administration purge of inspectors general across the entire Executive branch. At the time of his dismissal, Allen was looking into the unauthorized accessing of mortgage data. It also happened at the same time Pulte rose in the administration's favor."

Investigations connected the unauthorized access and personnel changes to indictments of Letitia James and Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook and to an investigation into Senator Adam Schiff. Pulte rose in administration favor amid these probes.
